The Year 10 boys got off to a great start to the rugby season with a 27-10 win at QEII on Tuesday. Leading by just a single score at half time, the Saints boys managed three second half tries to seal the game.
Try scorers were: Jordan Halligan-Bunce, Elliott Teece, Kristian Parlato and Lewis Runge (2) Captain Cameron Strickett-Morling added a conversion with the Man of the Match award going to Jordan Halligan-Bunce, who was a constant threat with the ball and tackled really well when defending.
A potentially tricky opening game against QEII saw the St. Ninian’s Seniors run out comfortable winners. This year's team has an unusually high number of Year 11s, but the young lads showed why they narrowly missed out on last year's final with a superb display. Harry Crompton opened the scoring, powering over the line from close range with Corbin Liebenberg adding the extra two points with his boot. Dylan McClean then went over following a brilliantly worked break away started by Liebenberg, with Brendan Kelly and Craig Martin involved too. Compton then added his second, before QEII got a try of their own. Josh Blackburn went over just before half time to give the Saints a 22-5 half time lead. The second half went much the same way, Crompton grabbed his hat-trick try and Blackburn went over twice more to replicate Crompton with a senior rugby debut hat-trick! Adam McClean topped a great performance off with the final try to which QEII had no reply. Man of the Match, Liebenberg added two more conversions to give the Saints lads a 46-5 victory.
